There's a complete guide in the file included in the server package when you download it as far as I can remember. Have you checked that one out?

Oh and you will probably have to open a port, can't remember which one atm but there's one

Or just pay to get a 20-25 man premium server. They are cheap as can be these days, and the setup is instant, with great CPanels. <3 my vent, with its custom nameserver. <3 <3 <3

If you are planning to run your own Ventrilo server, there are a few things to keep in mind:

1. The ventrilo server is a separate program from the client. That is, you can't just run a program and be on it yourself and have others join you. Also, if I recall, I tried running the server and the client on the same machine, but it didn't work.

2. So, given the above, you need to run the Ventrilo server program on a separate computer, but it doesn't need to be much of a computer. Any old Pentium or better computer, with any sort of graphics and about 256meg of RAM will do. Of course, you'll need a router, etc., then, to connect it all up.

3. The newer versions of Ventrilo server (for home/individual use) only allow 8 clients to connect at once. The oldest versions of Vent (2.1.x) have no limit on the number of clients, but the client and server programs are harder to find now.

4. The level of compression and codec used affects the bandwidth needed. Try the various settings to get the best compromise between voice quality and bandwidth.
